Article summary

Overview

The Ruler tool in the 360° Editor allows measuring floor and wall surfaces in 360° images:

Note: Ruler measurements are approximate. The accuracy of these measurements depends on several factors including camera positioning, image quality, camera height, and the distance from the camera to the measurement point.

To start using the Ruler tool, go to the "Other tools" dropdown menu located under the three dots in the bottom right-hand corner and click on "Ruler:"

There are three tools available for taking measurements with the ruler: Combined, Floor, and Walls:"

To understand the Combined tool, first learn about the Floor and Walls tools.

Floor tool

Floor tool allows to draw red lines to take floor measurements and create wall surfaces. It can be used only below the horizon in the 360° image. Use it to measure floor and floor-like surfaces only.

Click anywhere below the horizon in the 360° image to start your measurement. Drag the line to measure the surface. A single click during dragging will place another dot in the 360° image, allowing you to draw another line from it immediately. Double-clicking during dragging will end the measurement. Pressing "Esc" on your keyboard when no lines are drawn will cancel the measurement. Pressing "Esc" when at least one line is drawn will end the measurement:

Note: This tool cannot be used for elevated surfaces such as tables or countertops. If you intend to measure tabletops, it would be best to measure them from the base of the table:

Walls tool

Walls tool is only available for wall surfaces created with the floor tool. This means that you cannot add wall measurements without  floor measurements. Draw blue lines to measure objects on the wall. They can be of any shape, but must be on the wall surface.

Click anywhere on the created wall surface to start your measurement.

Combined tool

Combined tool allows to take floor measurements (thus create wall surfaces) and then use the walls tool for the created surface without switching to the walls tab:

Common for all tools

The "DELETE ALL" button at the top right-hand corner will delete all previously taken measurements:

Clicking the "ESC" button at the top right-hand corner or pressing "Esc" on the keyboard will close the ruler mode with all the taken measurements saved:

Clicking the arrow button at the top right-hand corner will display a short version of the tutorial explaining the differences between the Floor, Walls and Combined tools. Clicking the arrow button when the tutorial is expanded will collapse it:
